| Ave, Maria,
Hail, Mary,
|
| Gratia plena,
Full of grace,
|
| Dominus tecum.
The Lord is with you.
|
| Benedicta tu
You are blessed
|
| In mulieribus
Among women,
|
| Et benedictus fructus ventris
And blessed is the fruit
|
| tui, Iesus.
Of your womb, Jesus.
|
| Sancta Maria,
Holy Mary,
|
| Sancta Maria,
Holy Mary,
|
| Maria,
Mary.
|
| Ora pro nobis,
Pray for us,
|
| Nobis peccatoribus,
Us sinners,
|
| Nunc et in hora
Now and in the hour
|
| Hora mortis nostrae.
Hour of our death.
|
| Amen.
|
| |
| Jesus (played by Willem Dafoe): |
| I have an invitation for you. |
| |
| Peter (played by Victor Argo): |
| Is there a celebration? |
| |
| Jesus: |
| No, I'm not inviting you to a celebration. I'm inviting you to a war. |
| |
| God is inside of us. The Devil is outside us, in the world all around us. We'll pick up an axe and cut the Devil's throat. We'll fight him, wherever he is. In the sick, in the rich, even in the Temple. |
| |
| I'll lead you. If you have sheep, give them away. If you have a family, leave them. |
| |
| Sinéad: |
| Amen. |
|
Notes
The dialogue at the end of version 1 of the song is from Martin Scorcese's controversial 1988 film The Last Tempatation of Christ. It's from about halfway through the movie, in a scene where Jesus and the Apostles sit around a fire in a cave.
